Abstract The author presents the role and impact of the private foundation begun by Daniel Guggenheim on the development of aviation. He created a fund for the promotion of aeronautics, appointing Orville Wright as one of the Guggenheim fund trustees. In 1929, Orville Wright was presented with the first Daniel Guggenheim Medal.
