Abstract The Wright brothers' first successful aircraft used nineteenth-century technologies; these included several key elements of bicycle technology, such as the use of bicycle chains for the pulley system and wheel hubs for mounting. Orville and Wilbur's technological skills as photographers were also useful for recording the first flight.
