Although the 1902 Glider resembles their earlier machines, it was unlike any other machine the Wrights had built. Its design was based on solid, reliable data from their wind tunnel experiments.

All that remains of the original 1902 glider is a fragment of a wingtip—the rest disintegrated into the sand. The Wright Experience used a lot of clues from the Wrights' notes, detailed photographs, models, and computer-aided design to put together the 1902 puzzle.

Notes and Plans Notes and Plans: Orville made some notes on a set of plans for the glider created in 1934. These plans and the Wright brothers' notes provide some specifications for the glider but not every detail.
Pictures Pictures: The Wrights' photographs, newly scanned by the Library of Congress, provide the most detailed look yet at the original machine.
Models Models: Scale models made of wood and digital models made of calculations—these indispensible tools are used to compare the accuracy of the reproduction glider with the photographs of the machine. They yield many surprises.
