These pictures are the most clear illustration of the revolutionary control system developed by the Wrights. They were used as evidence by Orville in the patent trails of the 1920s. (Crouch, p. 497) Note how the warping occurs only in the outer sections of the wings. The center section was braced to remain in a fixed position to provide a stable support for the engine and transmission. The spars running the length were hinged to allow the outer parts of the wing to move. | ||
