Hyde and his team have also developed a keen sense of the Wrightsaccomplishments as scientists, aeronautical engineers, and as craftsmen.What they found surprised them: a thousand-pound airplane with suchefficient propellers that it can be lifted off the ground with only 35horsepower; a finish 'like a fine piano' -- highly polished aluminum lacquerfor all exposed wood, nickel plating for all the metal fittings, whiterubber wheels and burgundy corduroy upholstery for the seats.
